In this day and age when there are so many distractions, you may be in search of help to improve your focus. Problems such as ADHD and lack of focus can often be treated successfully with alternative methods instead of or in addition to medication.
Diet
Many people find that changing to an anti-inflammatory diet can help to improve focus. This means getting plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and healthy fats and eliminating sugar, artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors.
This type of diet can improve brain function and help you to focus better as well as have more control over your body.
Fish Oil
Fish oil supplements provide your body with essential omega-3 fatty acids that help to protect your brain. Fish oil has been shown in research to help children suffering from ADHD to have improvements in behavior and academic subjects including reading and spelling.
Meditation
Meditation has also been shown to improve focus. Beginning the day with a meditation practice can help you to stay focused for the rest of the day. When you begin to feel distracted, you can practice short meditation sessions to help bring you back to focus.
Exercise
Exercise is also critical for helping you to focus. If you’re having difficulty with focus, you’re probably very sensitive to energy around you and within you. By exercising you can help to clear your body of excess energy. At the same time you’ll increase the brain chemicals that help you to be in a positive mood and to focus.
You need at least 30 minutes daily of exercise to get the positive effects. There has also been some research that shows spending time exercising in nature is even more powerful. So get outside and enjoy the green grass and trees whenever you can.
Iron Supplements
Many children who suffer from ADHD have also been found to have low iron levels. If you or your child are struggling with focus it’s a good idea to have your doctor test iron levels. If you find that they’re low, an iron supplement can provide some relief from ADHD and lack of focus.
Sleep
Sleep is critical for the brain to function properly. If you have trouble with focusing, you may be sleep deprived. Children and adults with focus problems may need as many as 10 hours of sleep a night to improve focus.
Try getting more sleep and see if it makes a difference. Supplements such as melatonin can help you to fall asleep faster if you struggle with getting a good night of rest.
