Treating Allergies Homeopathically

allergiesWhen you have allergies, they can really make it difficult to enjoy certain aspects of life. You may have allergies to natural substances in nature such as pollen or ragweed or you may have an allergy to your favorite animal.

Even still there are allergies to foods and even synthetic products such as latex or certain medications. When you have allergies, your body is looking at these things as foreign invaders and immediately puts your immune system into action.

The results can include water eyes, sneezing, coughing, rashes, swelling, and even digestive problems and more. If you go to a traditional Western doctor for allergies you’ll likely be tested for allergies, told to avoid certain things, and even placed on prescription medications.

While this may relieve some of your symptoms, medications are not without side effects. You may find that they even do more harm than good in some cases. You’ll be prescribed antihistamines, corticosteroids, or even allergy shots.

Homeopathic treatment of allergies is much different. Rather than be concerned about what you’re specifically allergic to, you’ll begin by looking at the symptoms that you’re experiencing, but you’ll dig deeper into the spiritual imbalance that results in this response.

Some things that may be examined are changes in your life at the time that the symptoms first began to appear. What situations lead to you feeling relief from the symptoms of allergies?

You’ll also examine how the symptoms make you feel and what you experience as a result of your allergies. In addition, you’ll look at what allergies prevent you from experiencing and how they disrupt your life.

If you have severe allergies that can be life threatening, it’s important not to stop taking any prescribed medications. Pharmaceuticals can be lifesaving and prevent serious inflammation that can lead to asthma attacks and even death. You’ll want to continue those until you’ve worked through a more natural approach.

You will work with a homeopathic professional to increase spiritual strength. He or she may also produce remedies that you’ll take regularly in pill or liquid form. It’s a good idea to remove an allergen by making necessary changes and improving diet.

But when you focus on spiritual strength you’ll also be able to feel good when you’re exposed to the allergen from time to time. With homeopathic methods you’ll get to the deeper cause of your problems so that you can experience perfect health from the inside out.

The Homeopath vs. The Allopath vs. The Naturopath

Acupuncture6There are many different forms of medicine and it can get confusing to understand what each branch actually does. If you’ve wondered about the difference between a homeopath, allopath, and naturopath read on for clarification.

Allopathic medicine is what you would consider typical Western medicine. This is medicine that uses pharmaceuticals, surgery, and other modern practices. This is a term that many providers of alternative medicine use as a distinction between typical Western medicine and more natural approaches.

Homeopathy is a type of alternative medicine that began in Germany in the early 1800s. This type of medicine practices the “law of similars” which promotes the idea of using a medicine that creates the symptoms similar to the symptoms a patient is experiencing form the illness.

It also follows the principle that one remedy should treat all of the symptoms. This type of medicine uses very small doses of medicine and it focuses on making certain that the mind, body, and spirit are equally treated.

Homeopathic medicine does emphasize healthy behaviors such as good nutrition and exercise, but it focuses more on how those behaviors affect one spiritually rather than just physically.

Finally, naturopathic medicine is a type of medicine that has a broader scope. Homeopathy is a type of naturopathic medicine, but not all naturopathic medicine is homeopathic.

This type of medicine includes any medicine that is natural such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, nutrition, or manipulation. Usually when one talks about a naturopathic doctor, it is someone who has received a medical education and may even be licensed to perform specific procedures.

If you’re interested in alternative medicine, you’ll want to do your homework as you look for a naturopathic practitioner or a homeopathic practitioner to make sure that you get the treatment that you really want.

There really aren’t any standard definitions for these types of medicine, so you may find that someone refers to himself as a general naturopath, but practices a very specific type of healing.

And some people use the term homeopathic incorrectly when they mean to say the more general term of naturopath. When you start to look for alternative healthcare providers, know that you may have to do a little extra research and ask specific questions in order to find the type of care you desire.

All forms of medicine can have advantages and disadvantages, but it helps to start with a working knowledge of accurate terms.

What Should I Look for in a Homeopath?

Homeopathy The Revolutionary MedicineHomeopaths can be medical doctors, and in the United States, many homeopaths are also chiropractors, naturopaths, osteopaths, nurse practitioners, dentists and veterinarians.
There also are many unlicensed homeopathic practitioners who offer their services as consultants. They usually are persons without an accredited medical education or live in a state that does not allow licensing.

The skills and experience of homeopaths vary. Some start practicing after a few introductory courses, others start only after many years of training.

The best way to find a homeopath is a referral by a happy patient. You may be surprised at how many of your friends have been “into homeopathy” once you ask them to help you find one!
You may also contact one of the homoeopathic study groups in your area. Their members know the practitioners and will be happy to assist you with any information you may need.

There also are directories with listings of homeopaths. Those directories are not complete as many homeopaths don’t bother to get listed, especially if they are much frequented.

What you could be looking for in a homeopath?

Questions to ask could be:

Where are you located?

It helps if the homeopath is in your area so you can visit him in person. You may, of course, also decide to accept a very qualified homeopath far away and take a trip for a first visit. Many times, follow-ups can be done by phone or Skype.

Are you a classical homeopath?

Do you prescribe single remedies?

How much time do you allow for a first visit? (It should be a minimum of 1 to 2 hours).

Do you collaborate with medical doctors?

Where did you get your professional training?

Did your training include an internship with an experienced homeopath or in a homeopathic hospital abroad?

Are you taking supervision of your work?

How long did you study homeopathy? (500 to 600 hours should be the minimum.)

What is your experience?

Are you specialized in a particular area?

If you seek treatment of a specific condition, you could ask him about his experience with this problem.

What to consider with a physician

Ask how much of his work is homeopathy. This is the most important question. It should be his main or sole treatment method.

Homeopathy is a very sophisticated method. It is impossible to master it unless you concentrate your practice on homeopathy.

So anyone who practices a lot of different therapies including homeopathy cannot be expected to be a skilled homeopath.

It is most important to find a practitioner who is qualified and experienced in homeopathy regardless of his background.

Should I Change My Diet?

photo (44)The answer is, it depends! If you are on the standard American diet, it certainly would be a good idea to improve your health and speed healing by opting for a plant-based diet of whole and raw foods, and to avoid any kind of refined and processed foods. Go for natural foods instead of food products.

To make it clear: you should change your diet for sustainable health, not because it is required for homeopathic treatment.

The founder of homeopathy stressed the importance of diet and lifestyle in healing, and he recommended a frugal diet of natural foods.

Diseases have a cause, and malnutrition is cause of about 90% of modern illnesses. Those can be reversed and stopped by a change of diet.

You did not fall ill because you didn’t take enough homeopathic pillules. If your lifestyle is like that of most Americans, dietary errors over a long time are a major cause of your health problems.

Once you have become ill, homeopathy is the medicine to activate your immune system to heal you in a gentle and safe way.

To keep your new level of health, it is up to you to adjust your lifestyle. Homeopathy cannot save you from contracting all those illnesses caused by malnutrition. If you continue eating processed food, you are bound to get ill again despite homeopathy.

Below is a list of diseases caused by the standard American diet. It is long and scary.

• Caries, periodontal disease, tooth displacement
• Rheumatism, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spine and spinal disc problems
• Obesity, diabetes, liver diseases, gall stones, kidney stones, gout etc.
• Constipation, gall bladder and pancreatic diseases, colitis, Crohn’s disease, digestive disorders
• Arteriosclerosis, heart attack, stroke, thrombosis
• Recurring respiratory inflammation, bladder infection, pyelitis
• Allergies, eczema
• Multiple sclerosis
• Cancer (not the sole cause)

To prevent and reverse the above diseases, simple dietary changes will do wonders.

• Replace refined flour and all food products made of refined flour with whole grain flour. It is best to buy the grains and mill it either in a blender or a grain mill. Do not grind ahead of use as the ingredients of grains turn rancid quickly when exposed to air. Use brown rice, whole grain noodles, etc.
• Include a large plate of raw vegetables from above and in ground with your meals. Eat the raw veggies before the cooked food as this will spare your immune system. On cooked food your body produces leucocytes as if it was dealing with an infection. It doesn’t when you eat raw food before the cooked stuff.
• Be sure to use only natural fats and unrefined cold pressed oils. Natural fats are butter, cream, sour cream, nuts, olives, avocados, etc.
• Eat a dish of raw cereal for breakfast. This is a simple but highly health boosting means which has been in use in Europe for more than 60 years. Just coarsely blend 3 tbsp. whole oat kernels and combine it with cut-up fresh fruit, some nuts and a little whipping cream.
• Last not least, avoid all kinds of man-made sugar and sweeteners such as syrups even if they come from a health food store. Use sweet fruits or raw honey instead.
